What is Third generation of wireless network ( 3G) ?
3G means Third generation of wireless network which is upgraded version after 2G ( Second generation) 3G systems provide wireless access in methods that have never been possible earlier.- Companies developing 3G equipment were with a view so that the users can have the ability to receive live music, conduct interactive web sessions and have simultaneous voice and data access with multiple devices at the same time using a single mobile handset, whether driving, walking, or standing still in an office.
- The International Telecommunications Union (ITU) devised a plan to implement a global frequency band in the 2000 MHz range that would support a wireless communication standard for all countries all over the world called as International Mobile Telephone 2000 (IMT-2000).
- It was successful in technical analysis for new high speed mobile telephone solutions in comparison to the 2G.
- However, the hope for a single worldwide standard has not happened, as the worldwide user community spilt between two standards: GSM/IS-136/PDC and CDMA.
- The final 3G evolution for 2G CDMA systems leads to cdma2000.
- Several variation of CDMA 2000 ware currently being developed, but they all are based on the principles of IS-95 and IS-95B technologies.
- The final 3G evolution for GSM, IS-136 and PDC systems leads to Wideband CDMA (W-CDMA), also called Universal Mobile Telecommunication Service (UMTS).
Advantages of the 3G networks
- Multi-megabit Internet access
- Communications using Voice over internet Protocol (VoIP)
- Voice activated calls
- Unparalleled networks capacity
- Ubiquitous "always-on" access
- 3G network 3g speed is 14 Mbps
