- The general architecture of H 323 is as show in figure
- H323 is a standard designed by ITU in order to make the voice communication between the telephone on the public telephone network with the computers connected to internet, practically possible.
- internet is connected to the telephone via a gateway as shown. A gateway is a five layer device which makes the communication between one protocol stack to another, possible by translating the message.
- The gateway used in above figure translating the message suitable for the internet.
- The gatekeeper server connected in local area network as shows in figure work as the registrar server.
- A number of protocols are used by H323 in order to establish and maintain voice or video communication all these supporting protocol.
- G.71 or G723.1 are used by H.323 for carrying out the audio/video compression. A protocol named H.245 is used to allow the communication parties to negotiate the compression method.
